Felix Wu holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell | |University (1987) and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern | |University (1979). He has more than 16 years work experience in industry with| |a broad-based expertise in fibers, polymers, composite materials/structures, | |and engineering mechanics. He joined the Advanced Technology Program (ATP), | |National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as a Program Manager in| |the Office of Chemistry and Life Sciences in July 1997. As an ATP Program | |Manager, Dr. Wu has managed more than 43 ATP-funded R&D projects working | |with various industries including automotive, offshore exploration & | |production, civil infrastructure, metals/ceramics, and life sciences. | |Prior to joining ATP, Dr. Wu was a Senior Project Leader at the Owens Corning| |Science and Technology Center, Granville, Ohio, where he conducted | |fundamental/applied research and led R&D efforts in long-term durability,| |materials interfaces, mechanical behaviors, micromechanics, surface science, | |fiber forming and polymer processing of reinforcements and their composites. | |As a Senior Project Leader at the Alcoa Technical Center, Aluminum Company of| |America, Alcoa Center, Pennsylvania, Dr. Wu was the key contributor in the | |development of a new family of fiber-metal laminates (structural hybrid | |laminates). He also conducted R&D programs and led R&D efforts in | |fiber/metal hybrid laminates, statistical/materials characterization, | |composite interfaces, quality assurance, and design allowable development for| |aerospace and automotive industries. Dr. Wu was a Mechanical/Design Engineer | |for Control Data Corporation, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he developed new| |electromechanical components for computer peripherals. | |Dr. Wu has been honorably appointed as an Adjunct Professor in the Department| |of Materials Science and Engineering at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute | |and State University since 1999. He is also serving an Advisory Committee | |member for a Ph.D. student in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear | |Engineering at the Kansas State University since 1999. | |His research interests include composites, construction materials and | |processes, structural health monitoring, materials interfaces, damage | |tolerance/fracture, creep-rupture, environmental durability, biomedical | |devices and tissue engineering. Dr. Wu has published a combination of more | |than 135 papers in scientific journals, technical conferences, and technical | |reports pertaining to his areas of interest. He is a Fellow of the Ohio | |Academy of Science and has recently been selected as a Fellow in the 2003- | |2004 U.S. Department of Commerce Science and Technology Fellowship (ComSci) | |Program. | |Technology areas: | | * Fibers/Polymers/Composites | | * Automotive | | * Offshore Exploration and Production | | * Civil infrastructure/construction | | * Composite Manufacturing | | * Materials Interfaces and Processing | | * Durability/Reliability | | * Structural Health Monitoring & Sensors | | * Biomaterials/Bioengineering | | [Felix's Projects] | |Date Created: July 1996 | |Last Update: June 13, 2005 | |[Return_to_Parent_Page]_Return_to_parent_page________________________________| ATP website comments: webmaster-atp@nist.gov   /  Technical ATP inquiries: InfoCoord.ATP@nist.gov.
